How can I retrieve a dormant or lost personal account?

What happens when you don’t use your account

For accounts held in the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey.

If you have held an account with Barclays that has not been used for some time, we might need to close it to help protect you from potential fraud.

We’ll always try to contact you before we close your account, by letter or email.

Once an account has been closed, it cannot be reopened. However, if you wish to open a new account with Barclays you can apply here.

If no funds were held in your account when it was closed, there is no need to contact us, the account is now closed and no further actions are required.

If you did hold funds in your account, we’ll move them to a central holding account where they’ll still earn interest, if applicable.

How to get your money back

You’ll need to submit a claim to get your money back.

Please print a Reclaim of Funds Form [PDF, 123KB] and complete all sections accurately as any missing information may delay your claim.

We can’t return your funds to you if you don’t send us certified copies of the documents requested in the Reclaim of Funds Form. This is because we need to make sure we’re returning the funds to the rightful owner.

To have any of your requested documents certified, you’ll need to ask a member of Barclays staff, a professional such as a solicitor, accountant, or an embassy consular or high commission official, notary public to do this for you.

Once we have received all the required information and your Reclaim of Funds Form by post, we will be able to process the payment.

How to return your Reclaim of Funds Form

Once completed, please post your form and any documentation required to:

How to claim on behalf of someone else

You can claim on behalf of someone else, (one claim per form), provided you have a power of attorney in place, and it is suitable for use in the jurisdiction where the account was held.

Not sure if the account was with Barclays?

If you’re not sure who your account was with, you can trace it at mylostaccount.org.uk. It’s a free service that helps you trace lost current and savings accounts, supported by the Building Societies Association (BSA), National Savings and Investment (NS&I) and UK Finance.
